Halolz.com Second Annual Halolzween Pumpkin Carving Contest!

Hey guys! It’s that time again!
Yep, time for the Halolz video game pumpkin carving contest!

For those new to the site, last year we held a pumpkin carving contest for all Halolz readers! It was actually sort of a last minute thing, but even still we got some fantastic entries and gave away some awesome prizes! And now that we know what we’re doing, this year is going to be even better!

Like last year, our theme for this pumpkin carving contest is simply anything video game related! However entries will be judged based on three criteria: originality, creativity and difficulty. Also this year we will have three judges: myself, Alyssa and a mystery judge!

How to enter:
Step 1: Create a rad video game themed jack-o-lantern.
Step 2: Carve a small visible “H” somewhere on the pumpkin, or make a handwritten sign that says “Halolz.com” to hold up in at least one of the submitted photos (to avoid cheating).
Step 3: Take at least one digital photo (lights on or off or both) and email it to haloween@halolz.com. Be sure to include a name for your pumpkin and your name or nickname that you want shown on the site.
Step 4: All entries must be received by 10pm EST on Oct 29th. (Winners will be announced during the 30th and 31st).

Additional rules and tips:
• If you send in multiple photos of your work we will post the ones we think look best.
• All entries MUST have at least one photo showing the small “H” carved in the pumpkin or the handwritten sign to prevent cheating. There are many video game jack-o-lantern pictures already out there on the internet and if you do not do one of these two things we have to  assume the pumpkin is not your own work.
• Entries that use a pre-made carving template (like the ones Scott gives out every year) will be accepted, but it will strongly hurt your originality and creativity scores.
• Painted pumpkins will be accepted but they must still involve carving in some way.
• Non-video game themed pumpkins will be accepted but they are ineligible to win.

Oh right, and how could I forget… once again there will be prizes courtesy of Ninja-Bot!

Prizes:

    Ah I remember this…
The last year's winner was Samus Pumpkin.
I would love to carve a pumpkins, but I'm pretty sure my parents won't be buying it this year.
They say that it's hard to clean after finishing it….

Last year, my pumpkin was carved from the last pumpkin at the flower store. Then I used a custom-made template to carve out the Mudkips while I watched MST3K on DVD. Good times.

But this year, college and work may prohibit me from carving a new one. But never fear. I have some ideas that I may draw out and stick on my dA. Hopefully Shawn would put them up too. Hint hint.

Mmm… pumpkin contest, and here I am thousands of miles away from any pumpkins.

my recent lack of activity exlpained -- Very busy, very stressful times leading up to my first deployment in iraq.

And let me say, this keyboard SUCKS ASS.

  13. Tenck on October 16th, 2009 6:06 pm

what, you mean not everything is built by swinging pipe-wrenches aggressively at it? Don't be crazy. The engi has 11 hard science PhDs you know, I think he knows how to build stuff.

  14. Lekonua on October 16th, 2009 6:32 pm

I will definitely 100% consider possibly entering. Just need an awesome idea.

  15. Badonk on October 16th, 2009 7:21 pm

  16. Darkangelsv1 on October 16th, 2009 7:38 pm

    2 small questions.
1 -- Will people outside the U.S. be eligible to participate/win?
2 -- Do Halloween WATERMELONS count?

  17. Leo058 on October 16th, 2009 7:43 pm

    I'll enter, for sure.
    Now I need a kick-ass idea…

  18. BlueChameleon on October 16th, 2009 9:49 pm

I wish I could, I mean I had so many ideas from the last 12 months…but I'm going on holiday very soon until Haloween, and I won't be able to get a pumpkin until then, so no I'm afraid |:(

  19. BurnoutSpartan on October 16th, 2009 10:48 pm

If someone doesn't make a Falcon pumpkin He will be angry and no longer show us his moves.

Not me I suck at carving pumpkins

  20. TCC on October 18th, 2009 6:07 am

lol, broke the page by accident. :P

  21. whitekurama on October 21st, 2009 12:24 pm

i'M GONNA MAKE THE SPREADER! (sorry, caps lock)

  22. Roth on October 25th, 2009 5:19 pm

I made a Vaati pumpkin a few years ago. I painted the purple cap and the blue hair, carved the one eye and stuff…. I wish I could submit that, but there's no "H." I can assure you it's nowhere to be seen on the internet, but I doubt there will be any exceptions to the rules made. *sigh*.
