The Pokemon universe has the best economic system: have all the really awesome and fun stuff be dirt cheap, and then have the necessities cost an arm and a leg. Only the successful people get the necessities to live, the slackers die off.

I feel sorry for the guy that invented the Masterball and wanted to sell it as a product. It probably would only be worth around like 999Poke.
I mean, it makes a certain amount of sense. If you can store a monster capable of running the distance between L.A. and Moscow in 24 hours (I'm lookin' at you, Arcanine) in a sphere that fits on your belt, what the fuck do you need a bike for except to show off. Prick.
I think the bikes high price happens to make perfect sense!
They get so few customers that they have to drive up the price to make ends meet during the slow periods. Basic economics!
Well of course pokeballs are cheap, they're fragile. They break after being thrown if they don't capture anything, and they can only be used on one pokemon. Even further, their sale is never mentioned to be just availible to everyone. Whenever we see a person with a "pet" pokemon, it's never in a pokeball. It's a method of transport when you need to carry one around safely through a hazardous environment only available to licensed trainers.
