Honestly, it's not that ridiculous. Think about it: heavy armor is well…heavy. It's not a matter of strength or swimming skill on the part of the wearer; it's a matter of buoyancy.

Hmm, does the armor have its own supply of air? And is it too dense to float? How much pressure can it withstand?

Worst part is that in Halo: Combat Evolved, you were more than capable of survive being completely submerged in water. So could your A.I. teammates, apparently.
