Captain Falcon is shielding his eyes. For a God, he has one weakness: the Sun.
It's at times when I see horrid things like this I relish being a Wolfite.

Yeah, when they were making the game, they wanted C. Falcon's helmet to break if it took alot of damage. Same with Meta Knight's mask. They even had textures that showed the helmet and mask cracking.

The good Captain is actually even bald. There is a hack that was passed down the Armstro -- I mean Falcon line for generations, and that shows him clearly bald, and with manly pink sparkles.
