Every Zelda game basically consists of Link finding the Master Sword, saving the land of Hyrule, killing Ganon, and rescuing Zelda...except for Twilight Princess
But the one Zelda game that should NEVER have been made was the one where they had octorocks for dinner. I don't care if it wasn't official.

I think this prove every Zelda game takes place in a separate alternate universe, with the exception of Majora's Mask, which is a direct sequel to Ocarina.

Zelda & Zelda II
Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask
Oracle of Seasons & Oracle of Ages
Windwaker & Phantom Hourglass

Those are the only direct relationships in the series. The second one is the sequel to the first, with the exception of the Oracle series, which are interchangeable.

Also, they all take place in the same universe, but in different times. Every "Link" was of a certain bloodline, and every "Zelda" was as well.

Never question a Zelda nerd like myself about this.

Well technically, after Ocarina of Time, the timeline was split into two; one where Link goes back to his childhood and eventually leads to Wind Waker, etc, and one where Hyrule was left without a hero and Ganondorf was executed, and led to Twilight Princess. This much at least has been confirmed; where the hell the rest fit in beats me. Miyamoto has said there is a document containing the master timeline...

yes, but he has also been quoted in saying that there is no timeline, and there are only certain games that have direct sequals. as far as anyone knows it's just a few linked together games drifting through time... *cue back to the future song*

Who knows; this is one of the most debated topics in Zelda fandom. Maybe eventually we'll find out :p
