actually it looks like renders of the SM64 DS characters.
it could easily be any kind of shooting game as well as a standalone picture.
it is probably part of in-game play though, cuz otherwise they wouldn’t have let the blood splatter get cut off like that

also, if you look at the wall that luigi is on, it seems to stand out a bit from the other parts of the wall.

I’m surprised no one else has pointed this out; they really could have gone with any number over 20 and it would have worked, so they obviously chose 42 for a reason.
